Scripture for the week of September 5, 2010
Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
(Being Disciples)

Reading I: Wisdom 9:13–18b (The Lord’s Intentions)
Reading II: Philemon 1:9–10, 12–17 (Receive Him as a Brother)
Gospel: Luke 14:25–33 (Renouncing Possessions)

Theme: Commitment is required to follow Jesus.

Key Passage: In the same way, anyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.

Question for Adults: Do I want more than I need? Are there things I could do with-out that could help me be closer to Jesus?

Question for Children
: Today's Gospel is demanding. How do you as a modern man or woman "denounce your possessions?" What does this mean for you?

If you will be traveling out of the area, go to www.masstimes.org for locations and Mass times and keep God in your plans.

Living a Stewardship Way of Life involves certain expectations, for example

  • For the most part, that parents and students attend Mass as a family in their parish Church on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
  • Families and students try to avail themselves of the many opportunities to give of their time and talent to the parish and to the school.
  • In addition to Stewardship of Time and Talent, families should use their Church envelopes on a somewhat regular basis to exercise Stewardship of Treasure. The non-use of envelopes indicates inactivity in the parish. We recommend that financial giving to the parish be according to the St. Paul Three-Way Giving Program. (moving closer to the biblical tithe of 5% for parish, 2% for education ministries and 1% for Annual Diocesan Appeal.)
