Position overview
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) Ambulatory Support holds a senior nursing leadership position within the Division of Cancer and Ambulatory Support (CAS). This role provides nursing leadership to the nurse-led Walk in Centres, Central Health Intake and Central Outpatients Department. The ADON in consultation with the Director of Nursing provides strategic leadership, direction, planning and operational input to achieve quality patient care and service delivery outcomes within CAS. The ADON reports to the Director of Nursing. You will actively support, guide and collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Consultants within CAS in strategic implementation of evidence-based practice, auditing, reporting and compliance to standards, procedure and policies across CHS and the national governing bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership support and coordinate the delivery of nursing services including:
- Rosters, clinical resource management, employee & industrial relations,
- Development and implementation of appropriate policies and guidelines,
- Standards of care / preventable harm,
- Clinical Governance elements,
- Accreditation,
- Service Planning,
- Patient Flow.
- Demonstrate accountability for the flexible allocation of human and financial resources across the Ambulatory side of the Division and for reporting of variances against agreed targets.
- Lead, coordinate and work in partnership with the multidisciplinary teams to facilitate change management initiatives to achieve the strategic objectives of the Cancer and Ambulatory Support (CAS) Division as part of Canberra Health Services.
- Actively support CNCs and managers within the CAS Division with performance and development plans and performance management issues.
- Provide education and ongoing support to managers to ensure high level of understanding and accountability for Finance and Performance monthly reports.
- Monitor relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing professional and policy advice, reporting initiatives and strategies to assist with meeting KPI’s to senior management.
- Develop effective partnerships with internal stakeholders, referring health services and consumer interest groups.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Qualifications
Essential
- Tertiary Qualification or related qualification in Nursing.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Desirable
- Post graduate management qualifications or equivalent.
- Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum 5 years post registration experience working in a hospital setting
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of theCHS Exceptional Care Framework,Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework andall other related frameworks.

Appointment to this position is conditional on being granted and retaining appropriate clearances:
- Pre-employment National Police Check.

- Be available for weekend and/or after-hours work. The UCH AHHM role encompasses evening and night duty shifts on weekdays and all shifts on weekends/public holidays.

- Proven extensive leadership and management experience with demonstrated achievement in leading and managing cultural and organisational change whilst maintaining a high level of customer service and health outcomes in a multi-disciplinary framework.
- Demonstrated high level skills in financial and human resource management (including rosters and leave management), and in establishing policies and processes for employee/industrial relations and resource management.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and developing multidisciplinary teams, change management and evidenced based best practice.
- Highly effective written and oral communication and negotiation skills including the demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external service providers and stake holders to affect a continuous care environment for consumers.
- Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
